Even though many large companies opted not to show at this year's Summer NAMM 2009 it didn't deter smaller companies from doing great business. All weekend long I heard nothing but great response from smaller companies that had a chance to shine and show off their wares in front of real people, musicians and dealers a like.
Perhaps the musical instrument industry should take a cue from consumer electronic shows and have a day they can let the public in. Perhaps sell tickets to the event on the last day similar to Musik Messe so they can get more exposure to consumers.
